M-Learning: El aprendizaje a través de las aplicaciones móviles

Estrategias de movilidad - mlearningEn un suceso reciente, investigadores de la Policía Nacional se asombraban de la destreza con la que el grupo de jóvenes implicados en el caso usabanlos dispositivos móviles a pesar de su grado de analfabetismo y su fracaso escolar. Conociendo situaciones como esta, es lógico que las instituciones educativas vean en estos terminales unas herramientas inigualables para promover la alfabetización y luchar contra la desidia hacia el estudio.

La última encuesta del INE sobre penetración tecnológica arrojaba el abrumador dato del 66,7% de jóvenes entre 10 y 15 años con móvil. En la franja de edad entre los 16 y 24 el porcentaje es devastador, un 97,8%.

Mientras que la mayoría de profesores e instituciones ven los dispositivos móviles como un elemento que provoca distracciones y aleja al alumnado de la enseñanza,  otros ven en ellos el arma con la que paliar cierta agonía de métodos educativos que no logran captar el interés del alumno. En lugar de prohibir su uso, se impone el promocionarlo como si se tratase de un libro de texto.

Estrategias de movilidad - mlearning, m-learningEn una primera fase, el m-learning (Mobile Learning o Aprendizaje Electrónico) se concibe como una adaptación del e-learning a las tecnología móviles. Es claro que, sin dejar de ser necesario este primer paso, la finalidad del m-learning debe ir más allá y aprovechar las ventajas pedagógicas que puede ofrecer: “la capacidad de ofrecer un aprendizaje personalizado en cualquier lugar y tiempo, con el dinamismo y atractivo que representa para los alumnos y sus posibilidades para el autoaprendizaje adaptado al ritmo de cada estudiante”, según cita el CYTED en su informe de situación actual del m-learning.

M-Learning, mucho camino por recorrer

Sin embargo, aunque las posibilidades se antojan múltiples, aún no se han establecido estándares ni guías prácticas que definan el carácter del m-learning.

En este sentido, son varias las organizaciones que reúnen a gobiernos, estamentos académicos y empresas de tecnología móvil para promover plataformas y aplicaciones prácticas donde realizar los primeros avances. Entre las más destacadas por sus iniciativas e importancia de sus socios y propuestas destacan MOBIlearn a cargo de la Comisión Europea, MoLeNet en el Reino Unido o la singular Wapeduc francesa, gestionada por un equipo de cincuenta profesores con contenidos descargables en los teléfonos de los alumnos suscritos.

M-Learning: Desafíos y prevenciones

En España, el desarrollo del m-learning apenas está comenzando a despuntar. Iniciativas de algún museo o universidad son experiencias puntuales de corto alcance que buscan la experiencia del usuario para lograr la introducción de conocimientos.

La introducción de juegos para inculcar conocimientos, la compartición de contenidos y resultados para promover la competencia y la ambición del estudio o la creación y validación de contenidos, exámenes o tests online controlados por el profesorado son sólo tres interesantísimos campos a desarrollar.

Asimismo, la prevención sobre la privacidad de la información sensible sobre el alumno y la capacidad para distinguir las destrezas propias del alumno frente a las obtenidas de otros alumnos o de Internet se perciben como ejes de las estrategias de movilidad a la hora de desarrollar cualquier aplicación móvil orientada al m-learning.

Puede que con estos avances no se evite ver a ciertos alumnos en el transporte público aprovechando esos minutos para poner al día sus quehaceres, pero habrá una batalla ganada si en lugar del tradicional cuaderno, bolígrafo y hojas fotocopiadas pudiesen utilizar una tablet.
