Las Aplicaciones Móviles y el Huracán Katrina

Aplicaciones Moviles - Medicos, Salud, SanitariasNo hemos podido evitar dar a conocer esta historia que nos permite sacar conclusiones muy interesantes sobre las estrategias de movilidad corporativa.

Se trata del caso de Scharmaine Lawson-Baker. Scharmaine es una enfermera profesional que ejercía en Nueva Orleans atendiendo llamadas médicas de pacientes que por su especial situación o gravedad, no tenían la posibilidad de trasladarse a un centro médico. Scharmaine atendía unas 10 llamadas diarias, un servicio inestimable.

En 2005, el huracán Katrina destruyó todos los registros sanitarios, historiales médicos y pautas de medicación que Scharmaine tenía registrados sobre sus pacientes. Sentada frente a su casa destrozada, Scharmaine se prometió a si misma que eso no le volvería a pasar.

Scharmaine era una apasionada de la tecnología y comenzó a grabar la información de sus visitas y de sus pacientes en su PDA, en su portátil. Más tarde comenzó a utilizar recursos informáticos sanitarios (EHR – Electronic Health Resources) comprobando además, la gran satisfacción que producía en sus visitas poder dejarles información impresa a sus pacientes o enviarles por correo electrónico inmediatamente los resultados o directrices de los tratamientos, posologías de medicamentos, pautas de salud, etc. Por si esto fuera poco, Scharmaine podía aumentar el número de visitas que realizaba cada día, al aumentar la eficacia con que resolvía cada una de ellas.

Un EHR es un sistema informático que permite el control de historiales sanitarios y pacientes. No sólo ayuda al registro de la información durante la visita médica, sino que permite la consulta inmediata de síntomas, la capacidad de realizar diagnósticos más certeros, disponer de una lista de medicinas y pautas médicas corroboradas por otros profesionales o acceder decenas de servicios médicos donde conseguir los recursos o la ayuda necesaria para el caso que se está tratando. Es impensable el uso de estas aplicaciones en otro sitio que no sea un dispositivo móvil, especialmente tablets.

Hoy día, Scharmaine puede dedicar tiempo también a atender pacientes en servicios sanitarios móviles que dispone el estado de Louisiana e incluso es reclamada en el extranjero de forma que la capacidad de ejercer su profesión no se ve mermada por el el lugar donde esté o el desplazamiento que tenga que realizar.

Scharmaine no es una gran empresa, ni un organismo público ni una gran corporación. Pero ninguno de estos entes necesita de un huracán Katrina para entender que una estrategia de movilidad adecuada a su modelo de negocio puede lograr resultados sorprendentes por los factores que la tecnología móvil ofrece tanto a sus usuarios como sus beneficiarios.

Scharmaine fue galardonada en 2008 con el premio al Emprendedor del Año por  la revista Advance of Nurse Practicioner.

    One thing I would really like to say is that often before acquiring more personal computer memory, consider the machine into which it can be installed. Should the machine will be running Windows XP, for instance, the actual memory limit is 3.25GB. The installation of more than this would simply constitute any waste. Make sure that one’s mother board can handle an upgrade quantity, as well. Great blog post.
